Kids preparing to return to class after the holidays were delighted to find out that schools would remain closed today, due to a rare snowstorm descending upon Greece.

The Parthenon was dusted with white

As were city streets and cars

Tomorrow it is likely there will be bright sunshine (although at the moment the forecast is for rain).
But for a few hours, children along with plenty of adults are enjoying a rare change in their routine.
Happy New Year, M.L.! Does Greece get snow very often?

No, that’s why people think it’s fun! In the north, and in the mountains, yes. You can ski 2 hours from Athens, but it’s a short season.

You are welcome to that snow, Marina. We had enough last year, and it is not enough of a rarity to be exciting anymore. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

I know, that’s why Athenians find it fun—never lasts more than a day or two..

Hey cool, or maybe cold would be nearer the mark. No snow here yet this winter… maybe soon…

Yes indeed! Snow as a rarity is exciting. Here (in New Zealand – at least not in the mountains) we get a dusting once every 4 or 5 years if we’re lucky. It causes much excitement!

In the 6 years I lived in Greece, I never saw it snow. Oh well, we get plenty in the mountains here . Hoping you are feeling better.

it does all look very pretty, and strange, with a dusting of snow.

Rare weather – that isn’t scary weather – is a treat isn’t it. When I still lived in the U.K., the rare weather was sunshine 😎

Yes, it was. Some people certainly thought so, when schools remained shut one extra day!

And to think that our schools in New England wouldn’t close unless the snow was over 6”. 😀
